Good Books!

There are thousands upon thousands of books out there that deal with every topic and issue in Christianity and it can be kind of intimidating to know what book would be best to read on a certain topic or issue that is authored by someone who is like-minded in the faith, but at the same time both biblical, practical, and not “over your head.”

Therefore, I want to come to your side and list some books that meet the above criteria and, more importantly, have impacted my walk with God.

Disclaimer: I am please to present these books to you as a part of my mission to provide resources that will help you grow spiritually. Please note that I or Catawba Springs Christian Church may not be able to completely endorse the contents of a book. Each book is carefully considered and chosen because of its overall message an impact. I encourage you to read with discernment and to compare everything to the Scriptures, the only book we can depend on to be without error.Your first priority is to be a hearer and a doer of God’s Word (James 1:22).

Done. - by Cary Schmidt:  This mini-book is a great tool to use to witness or give as a gift to your unsaved friends. Furthermore, this mini-book helps strengthen your understanding of the Gospel by clearly laying out the differences between Christianity and other religions, especially since today’s culture incorrectly believes that “all roads lead to heaven.” I highly recommend every Christian to read this book!

The Glory Due His Name - by Gary Reimers: After reading this 110-page book you will begin to scripturally understand what God expects from you in a Sunday worship service. How often do you attend a Sunday worship service expecting “to get something out of the service?” As you study the Bible passages this book points out you will quickly realize that every aspect of Sunday worship services (music, offering, preaching, etc) are for you to give glory to God! I eagerly challenge every Christian to read this book!

The Peacemaker - by Ken Sande: Everywhere you go there is some kind of conflict taking place among Christians (marital conflicts, family conflicts, church conflicts, etc.) and more often than not they are handling the conflict in a unbiblical way that does not bring glory to God and hinders their testimony and gospel witness. The devil knows that if he can divide Christians he can then disable them from focusing on carrying out the great commission. This book is a biblical guide to resolving personal conflict God’s way! Do not let the size of this book (320 pages) scare you away from reading it. It is a great book to have for reference and/or counseling.

Just Friends - by Cary Schmidt & Mike Ray: Are you looking for a good book that will help you protect your heart as you journey through the dangerous time of young emotions and attractions? This book will help you understand the biblical principles that will ultimately lead you to true love and to a wonderful someday at the right time by seeing the big picture, making big choices, and getting the details right. This is a must read for Christian teens and young adults who are seeking to pursue a relationship.

Respectable Sinsby Jerry Bridges: Not many books are published to address the sins we as Christians have come to tolerate, and in some cases deem “acceptable.” The first 6 chapters the author tackles the topic of sin and the power of the Holy Spirit and then moves to vividly expose a cluster (14 to be exact) of specific “respectable sins” we have become accustom to such as, jealousy, discontentment, ungodliness, frustration. Then he concludes by admonishing the reader that he or she can have victory in this battle over “acceptable” sins. Take the time to read this short and straight-to-the-point book. It will be highly beneficial in your walk with God.

The Calvary Road - by Roy Hession: One of the reasons many Christians are self-sufficient in living the Christian life and always dealing with spiritual defeat is because of our selfish, sinful pride. In this short book you will discover that God intended the Christian life to be daily lived out in humility. I highly recommend that every Christian read this book in order to gain a biblical and proper perspective on how God intended for you to live the Christian life.

The Treasure Principle - by Randy Alcorn: In today’s culture there is much emphasis placed on “looking out for yourself” and “what’s in it for me.” Because of this proud mindset it has influenced many Christians to decrease or stop investing in eternity with their God-given time, money, and other resources. In this mini-book you will be scripturally challenged and motivated to start giving of your resources with your eyes on eternity! My favorite quote in this book is found on page 74, “I shovel it out and God shovels it back– but God has a bigger shovel!” Giving  is more precious than earthly treasure.

Living on the Edge of Eternity - by Matthew Recker: Eternity is something we ignore, deny, try to forget, but it always lingers on the other side of a moment. In this 105-page book the author presents a fantastic and biblical study on the life of Elijah on how he lived everyday on the edge of eternity and how it impacted his daily living. After reading this book you will find that every Christian can live as Elijah did…impacting eternity!

Keep checking this page for more good books!  I’m always looking for ways to help YOU grow spiritually!
